Yemen’s economy is dependent on the hydrocarbon sector (Oil exports), which accounts for nearly 60% of government revenues. In 2013, Yemen total population was 24.41 million with 33.45% of the total population is urbanized. Total CO2 emissions reached 23.92 Mt same year, representing 1.5% of total Middle East emissions. Its total primary energy supply reached 8266 thousand tons of oil equivalent (ktoe), with 97% coming from fossil fuel. In 2009, power shortages in Yemen reached 250 MW. Supply disruptions occur many times during the year because of aging and inefficient generation infrastructure alongside technical failures.
