Saudi Arabia has an oil-based economy, petroleum sector accounts for roughly 87% of budget revenues, 42% of GDP, and 90% of export earnings. In 2013, its total population was 28.83 million with 83% of the total population is urbanized. CO2 emissions reached 472.38 Mt in the same year, representing 29% of total Middle East emissions. Total primary energy supply in 2013 was 192181 thousand tons of oil equivalent (ktoe), with 65% coming from oil and 35% coming from natural gas. At the end of 2013, Saudi Arabia had the second highest solar PV installed capacity among the Arab states, with 19MW, right after the UAE (33MW). Electricity use in Saudi Arabia has risen by about 7-8% annually over the last decade, with summer peak demand increasing by 93% between 2004 and 2013 (from 28 to 54 GW).
